At an official handover ceremony on Friday the 11 August 2022, Sustainable Power Solutions (SPS) handed over a donation of a NIU electric scooter to the Seychelles Ministry of Health (MoH)'s Health Care Agency.
Managing Director of SPS, Mr. Micheal Searle, was on hand to handover the scooter and provide a basic overview of its various sophisticated features. Accepting the donation was Dr. Danny Louange, Chief Executive Officer of the Seychelles Health Care Agency in the presence of other key members of the agency's team. Namely, Mrs. Kathleen Cecile, Deputy CEO), Mr. Terry Poiret (Transport Manager) as well as Mr. Alain Julie and Mr. Anthony Soomery (Physiotherapists).
The donation comes from a need within the Health Care Agency for an efficient vehicle to handle their day-to-day dispatches. SPS answered the call without hesitation, knowing an electric scooter would be the perfect solution for their needs.
Speaking at the hand-over ceremony, Dr. Louange not only expressed his gratitude for the donation, but also highlighted some of the key benefits the electric scooter will bring to the agency. According to Dr. Louange a major challenge faced by the agency was the lack of efficiency in carrying out dispatches, especially during peak hour traffic times, limiting how much could be achieved. With the new electric scooter in their fleet, traffic will be less of an issues and more crucial dispatches can be carried out per day.
Dr. Lounge also highlighted the electric scooters benefits to the environment as well as mentioning the taxing burden of increasing fuel costs have had on the Health Care Agency
When asked about the motivation behind SPS's generous donation, Mr. Searle stated that it was a way of giving back and showing gratitude to the public health services, who give so much to the Seychelles community. "If it's something we know will benefit the people of Seychelles in some way, then we are all for helping in anyway we can," he added.
Mr. Searle then went on to provide a demonstration of how the scooter works and some of its key features not found on a regular scooter, such as app-connected rider tracking and vehicle monitoring, anti-theft systems, various driving modes and keyless operation.
When it came to the scooter itself, SPS spared no expense. They not only donated a NIU NQI GTS electric scooter, but also ensured it was top of the range version providing 2 x larger 35 amp-hour lithium-ion smart batteries to extend its range to 140km off of a single charge. SPS also donated an official NIU Cargo box to assist the agency with safely transporting goods and documents to be dispatched.
Mr. Searle also made sure to highlight one of the electric scooters most convenient aspects - that it can be charged from any standard Seychelles 220v wall socket.
"Not only can the scooter be plugged directly into a power outlet anywhere in Seychelles, but the batteries can also be easily removed and charged separately from the scooter," he added.
The NQI GTS is one of many electric scooter models on offer by SPS, who are the only authorised NIU agent in Seychelles. "We are not here to just sell electric scooters," explains Mr. Searle, "but we are here to support our customers every step of the way. We will fully support our customers with any spares, repairs and maintenance they may need."
